  1. To which youth is referring as so “beloved”? Ages 5 to 10? Certainly not ages 18 to 25. It makes me wonder if he ever talks to the youth.

I think Luce out cringes Kamala Harris. A feat I thought impossible.

I get what they are trying to do, but this isn’t it, I fear.

  4. Benedict Joseph says:

The degree of “out of touch” exhibited by the global episcopate, particularly in Rome, manifests a cognitive and emotional disassociation that is frightening. How did these men, and increasingly women, rise to this degree of responsibility? Were they airline pilots they would be grounded for the welfare of humanity.

Good work kid! Love to see it.

Let us hope it remains a drawing. Here in sports-mad America, mascot usually refers to someone in a costume encouraging/entertaining the fans. The thoughts of some guy in a Luce suit . . . well, it doesn’t bear thinking about.

13 y.o. grandson is a Manga/Anime fan, having been taught to read with it by his then young teen older brother who was also a fan. There is real iconography to the 2 genres, so I asked 13M at dinner what the scallop shells in the eyes meant. He had not seen Luci, so I pulled up a picture for him. His verdict was “It means you are looking at bad art”.

We then had a nice discussion about The Good News for Modern Man, Veggie Tales, the Arch Books and my old Hurlbert Story of the Bible that was my mother’s before it was mine. Discussing the pros and cons in balancing reverence with accessibility, along with the deeper understand one develops when teaching a topic. Luci was a perfect “beacon of light” for our multigenerational homeschool life to unpack why what we think about art matters to our understanding of the human condition..

The other day I wrote that the Holy Year, imho, rather needs a patron saint than a mascot. Saint Dominic Savio would do nicely, I think (although I can think of several groups within the Church who would vehemently disagree).
