As I watch, Milton is marching across central Florida.
I ‘ve read and seen videos of bad… very dangerous… tornadoes exactly in the neighborhood where I my mother lives.
I had news from the local parish priest that there is damage to the church and that perhaps dozens are dead in the area a couple miles south and west of where my mother is.
Power in the area is out, so there are no comms.
I ask for your prayers for all those concerned.
Moreover, I put forth a question to the bishops and priests of Florida.
Did you pray the litany against the storm?
Did you?

Father,
I pray that your mother is safe and sound. I’ve been checking on my sister and BIL across the way in Palm Harbor – thank the Lord that they are well, still have power and minimal cleanup to do. Others in their neighborhood are without power and have some damage.
Even though I am not a priest or bishop, I have been praying incessantly for Florida. May God have mercy on those who have perished and may Good Samaritans help those who are in need.
Praying! I pray Mother Z is ok and remains so. Praying for my brother and his kin who are also in the area. Scary times.
Prayers for your mother, and everyone one else affected by the storm.
I’d like to say something about the Procession to Avert Tempests. I am a meteorologist, and I obviously watch my local weather closely. Several months ago, we were expecting a major wind storm. I asked my parish priest to pray the Procession. He did it the night of the storm, a few hours before it arrived, and the only witness was one of the parish deacons.
The storm literally split and went around the parish geographic boundaries (the whole area the parish covers, not just the parish property). It was incredible to see! The damage reports made a circle, no damage in the middle, with the parish in the very center.
These prayers work.
Please God help all in the southeastern US, and creatures as well, so much suffering. I was edified by the straightforward talk of the great Governor Ron DeSantis, who rightly called the person who tied their poor dog to a fence and left him in the storm a jackass, and said that Florida takes animal cruelty seriously and people will be charged for abandoning such pets and certainly for looting! Our nation was once filled to the brim with such sensible and dedicated governors! He was the NORM, not the exception! What on earth has happened to America that we have such pantywaists and nincompoops running things. Please God, we turn it around November 5, please! One quick thing, I saw many, many Americans in the last week lining up to give to fellow Americans across the country who have suffered the storm and endured nincompoopery from our feds, and worse. Americans bringing whatever they could, to the local businesses that sent them from New England to North Carolina and probably, Florida as well. People showing up with $5000.00 worth of dog food on pallets, water on pallets, and smaller donations but steady. It is the people who show up with five or ten food items or articles of clothing or baby items that make all the difference. Five 53 foot tractor trailers were FILLED. Americans care and the level of work and sacrifice I saw this past week showed the true America and how deeply people care. This happened all over, I think. People literally cried just thinking about the poor people who are in such trouble 800 miles away. I hope the people there find out how much their fellow Americans cared. It was the same thing with Katrina. America is a caring nation of mostly good people with a certain amount of uncaring oddballs.
God bless and have mercy we pray, for the souls of the lost, the survivors, for those we haven’t heard from yet, and for good Mother Z. I always include a prayer for all the creatures who suffer, there are so many.
