Can it be 20 years? I miss him.
On April 2, 2005, Pope John Paul II departed for the Father’s House.
Twenty years after his death, we remember his witness of holiness and give thanks to God for his legacy of love for the Church and the world. pic.twitter.com/5N5xIhH6Nu— EWTN Vatican (@EWTNVatican) April 2, 2025

Miss him every day.
Sancte Ioannes Paule Magne, ora pro nobis! Intercede pro Ecclesia!
My knee hurt when I read it has been 20 years. I saw him at world youth day in Toronto as a teenager. I remember being struck deeply with the understanding that this is Peter! An exciting time it was. So much in the world has changed since then, hard to comprehend some times.
i remember that day well. it was a Saturday. my late wife and i were running errands. we stopped for lunch at a diner and the tv mentioned the not at all unexpected news. she wept as if it were a close family member who had passed. we went to an anticipated Sunday Mass a few hours later. the celebrant – a young priest originally from Spain recounted the great influence that JP II had on him, convincing him to leave doctoral studies in mathematics to go to the seminary.
he is now pastor of a nearby parish and has done many good things such as more opportunities for confession and adoration and regular public celebration of morning prayer each weekday. he is also the most rigorous confessor i’ve encountered. he also goes door to door evangelizing.
