And now for something more amusing.

This is GREAT…. these are the Dominican Sisters who make the great soaps and other things. Now cheese? I hope so!

fifty six years ago today i was at my aunt Clara’s house at the opposite end of the metro area. she was the only person in our circle who had color tv that early on and she was a gracious hostess. i had a hip-to-ankle cast on my right leg due to my clumsiness.

it was the last time i saw my aunt Sophie. delightful lady. i still miss her. glad that a chair of hers is mine and a most cherished memento. may she rest in peace.

i – speaking to pioneers who lived their early lives more like the biblical patriarchs than like anyone who has ever read this site – confidently asserted that we would move to Mars in 1975. heh.

I see what you mean about rental cars. The last three or four times I have rented I went ahead and paid the fee for the extra insurance. Today, you may end up in a certain part of town, run into an unexpected weather event, or have to deal with drivers who are always on their phone and don’t even know how to read a map, so they just follow instructions on their GPS. The extra insurance sometimes costs more than the daily rental car rate, but better safe than sorry.

I have always had good luck with Enterprise. Most recently from Kansas City Airport (MCI) to Gower MO to visit the Benedictines of Mary Queen of Apostles and to pray at the tomb of Sister Wilhelmina for an intention.

Re: Dr Aldrin and July 1969

I’m not sure where I was on the 18th. Presumably somewhere around my early childhood home. We had family visiting from out of country that summer, so there were many road trips of various ranges.
As to the 20th – I was told many times by my mother, may she rest in peace, that we were at home and she got infant me out of the crib & my toddler sister out of bed and downstairs to watch history happening in living black & white on our RCA or Zenith or whatever it was we had then. Looking at the timeline on the history pages, I assume that must have been for the first steps outside the Lander at ~10:56 PM EDT.
