    We are so back.

    I like apples.

Not just “want to ban” or “trying to outlaw” — but some bishops have already done so. For instance, what the pope did today (with just a novus ordo, mind you) is currently illicit in the Archdiocese of Washington, without getting explicit permission from the cardinal-archbishop.

Those apples are sweet and nutritious.

    KW,
    Same story in Seattle Archdiocese.
    Detroit and Charlotte. ?

And His Holiness is using a missal stand. Let us pray that some bishops learn by example.

  7. TWF says:

Even Pope Francis celebrated Ad Orientem. Not sure if it was just the once… but he definitely did at least once. I think it was on the tomb of St JP II.

  8. monstrance says:

It appears that ad Orientem is the only option at that chapel.
    As it should be.

  9. francophile says:

Same in Atlanta. You need permission from the AB.

I wish the Holy Father (how much easier to type that than just a couple of months ago!) had celebrated Mass ad orientem in the Sistine Chapel as well. But I’m glad he did it at Castel Gandolfo. Maybe some bishops’ inboxes should be flooded with this picture.

This is so refreshing and encouraging to see.

  12. Ave Maria says:

Our parish Masses are ad orientem but we may have a new bishop before long and can only hope that reverence is supported. We do not have a communion rail in our modernist designed worship space but use kneelers on the weekends to give the choice to stand or kneel and use the front pew where everyone kneels to receive during the week.

Would it be in keeping with humility and holy obedience for members of the faithful to print out this picture and post it on, say, the Cathedral doors in dioceses where this posture is verboten? No commentary, just the picture? Hmm…

    I don’t mean to sound bitter, but…

A good priest that I know gave me some advice and observations, during the COVID era (buckle up, people). He commented that “we didn’t realise how difficult it would be when away from the sacraments” – “you must be struggling”…

It’s good that the Pope is saying Masses ad orientem; I believe Pope Francis also did from time to time. We in the pews must be content with what’s on offer sometimes, and suck it up; or worse, be told to offer it up. For some Catholics, it is too easy in our Church to be close to despair… and yes, I am aware that is a sin. Bishops won’t learn by example.
