Too many people today are without good, strong preaching, to the detriment of all. Share the good stuff.
Was there a GOOD point made in the sermon you heard at your Mass of obligation for the this 8th Sunday after Pentecost? 18th Sunday of Ordinary Time in the Novus Ordo.
Tell about attendance especially for the Traditional Latin Mass.
Any local changes or (hopefully good) news? I know there is a lot of BAD news. How about some good news?
A taste of my thoughts from the other place: HERE

The challenge of the parable lies in the commendation of the steward’s cleverness. The Fathers grappled with this. St. Jerome even wrote to St. Augustine to ask what it meant. Augustine saw here an argumentum a minori ad maius: if the unjust steward is praised for prudence in temporal affairs, how much more should the children of light be shrewd in the things that secure eternal life. The Lord praises not the fraud but the foresight.

The good news from my parish is that the pastor now regularly celebrates from the high altar in a literal and metaphorical ad orientem posture. The Sunday evening Mass gives us some Latin with Gloria, Sanctus and Angus Dei. Incense is a regular Though not a big thing to met, no EMHC when the deacon is there. (We have been blessed with bishop who have been friendly to more traditional, reverent practices. The TLM folks don’t get harassed and the previous bishop even celebrated it
The new priest, who has been a little dry heretofore, broke out with a homily on greed and possessiveness. Where he talked a lot about Smaug and compared his hoard to Bilbo’s comfy Hobbit hole.
This was a salutary shock. (I mean, yes, that is a theme of the story, but usually people think about the Arkenstone or giving presents to other people on your own birthday.)
(He did point out that Bilbo came back having learned generosity and almsgiving, per LOTR.)
Father – I need your help – I’m so confused. Luke 16:1-9.
I have always read that story that the steward is not a good man. To get in good graces with the people who owed his master money, the steward reduced their debts to the master. So when the steward lost his job, the people in debt would be good to him.
Today, our Priest at the TLM said that the steward is being praised by Jesus as a good man. That the steward is showcasing almsgiving.
Have I been reading this passage wrong all along?
tjramone: If you want the fast answer, and I think the correct answer… just scroll back up to the top and read what I wrote. I answered that point. I have there a link for additional points.
Our sermon for the 8th Sunday after Pentecost was about the precepts of the Church. Father went over all 6 precepts. A couple of items that were emphasized – not doing servile work on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. Mowing your lawn is servile work. Pottering about in the back yard might be OK if it is something you enjoy as a hobby. Fasting and abstinence – under current law we only have to fast 2 days of the year and only have to abstain on the Fridays of Lent (can substitute another equal penance on the other Fridays). But we might want to consider following the traditional practice of fasting all the days of Lent, Ember Days, and the vigils of feasts.
