    “Meet is murder. Go vegan!” LOL, what an illiterate idiot.

  2. A.S. Haley says:

    Mate in 4, with all Black’s moves forced:
    1. Rd8+ Ka7
    2. Ra8+ KxR
    3. Qxa6+ Kb8
    4. Qxb7 mate

  3. amenamen says:

    The anonymous open letter simply tells NC priests to ignore the bishop?
    They cannot do that anonymously.
    That will not end well.

  4. L. says:

    “Meet is murder.”

    I’ve attended some meetings like that.

    Lovely sound from that choir. The music is Philip Stopford’s “Lully Lulla Lullay” and it’s relatively simple to learn and not vocally challenging, but it takes a great director to get a blended, tuned sound like that. Bravo.

  6. JabbaPapa says:

    1. R D8+ K A7
    2. R A8+! KxR
    3. QxA6+ K B8
    4. QxB7++

  7. Suburbanbanshee says:

    The acoustics of that church are great, but the blend really works the acoustics!

  8. Suburbanbanshee says:

    Yeah… not a fan of that anonymous letter, and putting a name on it would not make it better.

    I mean, yes, it’s sorta correct; but why would someone publish this right now, when there’s dubia already filed, and priests already hanging out exposed to the cold wind?

    One can picture all sorts of creative methods by which priests are dealing with this, without disobedience, and without compromising the reverence and freedom of communicants. But a lot of that requires not being explicitly exposed as having methods, in an atmosphere where creative, reverent methods are prone to being closed off by episcopal fiat.

    Admittedly it’s really hard to run out the clock when a bishop is relatively new and young, and when there’s no specific timeclock to expect help from above or Above.

    Patient waiting and urgent, persistent prayer are important, though. Minds do change, and help does eventually come. We have to still be there when help does come.

    Those Graffito (Graffiti) chappies cannot spell.

  10. TheCavalierHatherly says:

    Just install a lever that lowers the altar rails below the floor, and raises them back again.

  11. EAW says:

    “Meet is murder,” as someone once found out on the Ides of March.

  12. Ben says:

    @TheCavalierHatherly, now I have an image of a red button next to the credence table, which when pressed raises/lowers the altar rails, and slides the altar (and top step) back to the East wall or forwards to versus populum mode. Sadly, to go the whole hog it would also have to move the tabernacle off to the side.

    Beautiful music!

    And, not surprising to hear that the choir members are high school students.

    Contrary to what the average person might think, you do not need to have a choir full of trained singers (although obviously it is awesome when blessed with such). When I was in religious life, we had one brother trained in music, and a choir with varying numbers, from 5 to 10 at different times, all with zero training. We progressed and received many, many expressions of gratitude, appreciation, sometimes with people even in tears…

    We started with chant, and moved into more challenging polyphonic pieces. The choir director would practice with each section one at a time (bass, tenor, etc), and then we would have a practice with all sections together. Obviously, such a director in a parish setting would need to be very motivated and able to make a large time commitment… but, such a choice would begin/help to return any parish to “focusing on God” during The Mass, and turn/help the faithful towards a deeper authentic Actual Participation truly intended and called for by the Council.

    So beautiful!

    * NB — also… step 1 is remove/destroy any piano, and/or any other instruments

    Step 2 — do NOT “bite off more than you can chew”! If all you can do well is Chant, do NOT try to do polyphony! The time will come!

    Step 3 — no music/singing/chanting at all (ie, Mass with no singing, a Read Mass) is far, far, FAR better than lousy music merely for the sake of “The People doing something” — is a complete inversion of Reality

  14. “MEET IS MURDER” … yeah… a good one. I walked by that one almost every day.

    It merely affirms that I’m right about consigning these wall-piddling puppies to the “corda”… and the Via della Corda is just nearby. This is the Vicolo delle Grotte. A good meeting place.

  15. TheCavalierHatherly says:

    @Ben

    You would probably get away with a central tabernacle at the back if it unfurled really lame felt banners.

  16. CavalierHatherly: when the lay board I’m a member of took over St. Anne Shrine in Fall River MA, we started (and 7 years later, still) cleaning out the cast-aside refuse in the sacristies and attic spaces. One of the attic spaces was filled (as in floor to rafters) with cast-aside bauhaus burlap and felt banners with trite motifs (even a throw back to the 70s “War is not healthy for children…” protest banner). A visitor related that they used to change them out regularly, using the motorized cable system used to raise and lower the sanctuary lamp over the tabernacle at the high altar to have them hanging in the middle of the sanctuary

    Needless to say…we have a NEW, BEAUTIFUL, sanctuary lamp to be installed when we get to the renovation of the upstairs sanctuary (after stabilizing and cleaning up the nave.) Oh, those banners? I believe they left in a 30yd container we had rented.
