The suppression of all the Eastern and Oriental rites will be a sad thing, but here we are. https://t.co/IOj0ifBtXk

NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

+Cupich is overdue for retirement.
If he was a cartoon of milk, he would have been poured out already.
It really is quite venomous how the Politburo wannabes of the Church have begun citing St Pius V in defense of their heartless war against tradition, especially given how historically tone deaf you have to be to claim that he “unified the Church under one rite”. It seems as if Cupich, Roche, and others of their ilk are completely blind to the existence of the Ambrosian, Lyonese, Bragan, Dominican, Premonstratensian, Carmelite, Carthusian, Cistercian, and Anglican Ordinariate rites, all of which exist in perfect harmony with the Roman rite. I somehow doubt that anybody who holds fast to those forms would be all too enthused with Cupich’s proposals…
It’s both amusing and frustrating that this fallacious line of thinking would be struck down with a basic understanding of liturgical history.
St Pius V, pray for us.
St Bede the Venerable, pray for us.
Yeah, good ol’ Blaise. He’s another one that has to pick – do you want to be remembered asa a disingenuous, sanctimonious, condescending bully, or a moron, because there can’t be any other responses that describe the behavior.
What can you do but pray for him?
From Quo Primum, St. Pius V:
“This new rite alone is to be used unless approval of the practice of saying Mass differently was given at the very time of the institution and confirmation of the church by Apostolic See at least 200 years ago, or unless there has prevailed a custom of a similar kind which has been continuously followed for a period of not less than 200 years, in which most cases We in no wise rescind their above-mentioned prerogative or custom. However, if this Missal, which we have seen fit to publish, be more agreeable to these latter, We grant them permission to celebrate Mass according to its rite, provided they have the consent of their bishop or prelate or of their whole Chapter, everything else to the contrary notwithstanding.
All other of the churches referred to above, however, are hereby denied the use of other missals, which are to be discontinued entirely and absolutely; whereas, by this present Constitution, which will be valid henceforth, now, and forever, We order and enjoin that nothing must be added to Our recently published Missal, nothing omitted from it, nor anything whatsoever be changed within it under the penalty of Our displeasure.”
“It seems as if Cupich, Roche, and others of their ilk are completely blind to the existence of the Ambrosian, Lyonese, Bragan, Dominican, Premonstratensian, Carmelite, Carthusian, Cistercian, and Anglican Ordinariate rites…”
Seems? They don’t know about these rites or they simply don’t care. They are ignoramuses at best, and at worst represent western Church bully mentality that in the past tried to impose Latinization on various rites.
As for the Anglican Ordinariate rite, technically that is an approved variant of the Novus Ordo aka the single true expression of the Roman Rite (ahem). I believe it follows the N.O. calendar and three-year/two-year lectionary, and N.). prayers with a few bots added on (like prayers at the foot of the altar).
Anyway, it is clear what the talking points are now.
Any interior photos?
This mistaken idea that St. Pius V’s Missal established a single rite for the entire Latin Church is, unfortunately, common among traditionalists as well. I hear it again and again on otherwise well informed and traditional podcasts.
Please pray for Chicago. Cardinal Francis George once said from memory and paraphrase, who cares if there are kneelers, don’t your knees work? Mine are getting old, but I can kneel on the ground for now
* he was i belive suggesting to be more reverent no matter your place of worship. Pray for chicago.
They must think we are idiots. They want us to ignore our Liturgical history and embrace the swinging sixties. The sixties brought homosexual priests which resulted in the sale of our sacred churches to pay for lawyers and settlements.
Now we have failing NO parishes called “collaboratives”. Overworked Priests must handle Mass, confession, funerals, baptisms, weddings between two churches. I recently joked with Father that he needed to bi locate. He laughed and said. God would probably give him twice as much to do. God Bless him.
Always makes me wonder if these guys are clerical freemason’s.
