I love this church in Paris. Inter alia, it was the seat of the Confraternity of Our Lady Queen of the Clergy.

Would anyone care to comment on the validity of this? On the one hand, I suspect a bishop hasn’t the authority to create a law of “latae sententiae” excommunication as a local law for his diocese. On the other hand, he probably can excommunicate anyone for a wrong act as a positive act of his juridical power: is he just announcing this as a threat of a punishment he CAN levy? On the other hand, canon law lists ranges of punishments for certain kinds of delicts, and doesn’t just permit excommunication for just anything.
In any case, I am glad I am not in his diocese. That he thinks THIS is the most dangerous thing he has to express concern about proves his blindness.

@TonyO – at the rate we’re going, they’re going to start announcing automatic excommunication for anyone who says anything mean about an illegal alien. If anything, just like Pope Francis made a joke of papal authority by using it to order everyone to give “non-liturgical” blessings to homosexual individuals in a relationship together, they’ve moved on to making a joke out of excommunication itself.
The bishops are a silly people at a time when much gravity is needed.
