The Vatican’s doctrine chief has said he hopes to “find a fruitful path of dialogue” when he meets the head of the SSPX next week, amid tensions over plans to consecrate new SSPX bishops.https://t.co/qfoAox3sN8

Will he give the SSPX leadership autographed copies of his books?

Dialogue? He’s going to try to Synodal his way into discussions with the SSPX?
Facepalm.
Yeah right. Roche will surely torpedo Any attempt.
“Fruitful path of dialogue”, if they said what they really mean, – Listen, this effort has been in the works a long time. Many people have worked on this over the years. Its finally within our reach. We’ve made the impossible happen, the end of the Truest Form of the Worship of God, we’ve brought it out, its on the table, the frogs are simmering, its gone in sone places and yes there was grumbling but we stuck together and persevered! Our man hasn’t responded to the requests and thats worked fine. What can they do! The non-TLM Catholics are with us or at least not paying attention, it doesn’t impact them so they don’t care, still writing checks. Look, we’re as close as we’ve ever been in history and you’re going to mess up our time table! We won’t be able to eliminate it if you do this because you’ll give these pious posers a place to go for worship and we’re not done twisting those screws yet. We’re salivating. Come on, be a pal and we’ll figure something else out for you, what do you want… (Shows all the nations of the world) I can put all this at your feet….
The absolute idiocy of having the author of Mater Populi Fidelis and Francis’ closest compatriot be in charge of negotiating with the SSPX when Fr Pagliarani explicitly stated in his Candlemas homily that Francis’ doctrinal failures and the DDF’s rejection of Mary as Mediatrix and Co-Redemptrix were what spurred them to go ahead with the consecrations cannot be understated. Never change, Holy See, never change…
My prediction? Tucho is going to fall flat on his face and make them dig their heels in the sand even further than before. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if anything even slightly better results from this.
FleurDeZ,
Kremlinological Vaticanology – might that be a way for HF to get rid of Tucho without looking like too much of a meanie?
Here’s my hope:
Perhaps Tucho will follow Pope Francis’s pragmatic approach to the Society, allowing them to move forward with the consecrations in a “regular irregular” way (as with confessions), while avoiding addressing any of the doctrinal issues head-on.
The comment about signed books may be entertaining for some readers of wdtprs, but it is not appropriate for anyone to make about the Lord Cardinal Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. We’re not meant to make smart aleck remarks.
Aware of their linguistic sympathies, will Tucho present the SSPX with a personally autographed Latin edition of “Cura me ore tuo: ars osculorum”?
@ Venerator Sti Lot
From your keyboard to God’s ears!
Smells like a set up. . . .
@ mcferran,
Seriously?
@mcferran
This guy is as much the “Lord Cardinal Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith” as I am!
Back when the doctrinal discussions under Bishop Fellay and Cardinal Levada were beginning (remember those?), some of the noisier Catholic keyboard warriors were gleefully anticipating what they called a “smackdown” of the SSPX by the CDF. Not a word that’s exactly redolent of Christian charity.
This week, when the impending consecrations were announced, I began seeing a lot of similar sentiments expressed about what Pope Leo might do to those recalcitrant “Lefebvrians.” But since it’s been announced that H.E. Tucho will be the point man for Rome on this, … the crickets have taken over.
I used to be young and full of hope. I used to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I used to look at the issues and debate the merits. Now I am not so young anymore. Hope is a word for other people. I know all too well that too many people are looking to take advantage. In any debate of this type those involved don’t care about the merits but who they are debating with.
There are too many inconsistencies that don’t make any sense. There are too many signs that people are lying. So I have no expectation that when it comes to decision time the person deciding will do the right thing. They will do the self interested thing. What I see are people in the Vatican having self interest to harm the sspx. They have a self interest to withhold the Latin mass and punish anyone who wants it. It we are in a church with people who want to do us harm, we’re not actually on the same church. If we really are all together by way of out baptism adopted into God’s family, there should be no place for fighting with each other.
I should point out that I don’t attend the sspx mass. It is too far. I got to the local parish where confessions are practically banned, the pews are set so it is impossible to kneel unless you stand in the back, and everyone stands during the consecration. I have patiently endured but I will not live forever. Am I to endure this until my death? Didn’t Christ tell us to let the dead bury the dead? If the sspx consecrate a bishop I say let them get on with it. Stop stalling and do it. What are you waiting for? We have the gospel to preach instead of being stalled until we are too old to preach.
