Your Sunday Sermon Notes – 11th Sunday after Pentecost (N.O.: 19th) 2023

Share the good stuff.

It’s the 11th Sunday after Pentecost in the Vetus Ordo and the 19th Sunday of the Novus Ordo.

Was there a GOOD point made in the sermon you heard at your Sunday Mass of obligation?

Tell about attendance especially for the Traditional Latin Mass. I hear that it is growing. Of COURSE.

Any local changes or (hopefully good) news?

I have some thoughts about the Sunday Epistle reading posted at One Peter Five.

A taste:

Contrary to the notions of some in the Church today, Paul and his cohorts of catechists and bishops didn’t focus on soccer balls instead of doctrine.

  1. Oliver Matthews says:

Today is the Father’s Day where I live. Therefore, a spiffy connection was made between that fact, the NO collect, God’s firm but tender and quiet providence alongside Elijah’s course, and Jesus’ calming of the storm amidst the current crisis.

  2. Woody says:

A pretty full house of maybe 230 people, including many young ones, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham, for the Ordinariate vigil Mass last night, the rector’s excellent homily emphasizing that when times are rough, as these are, we need to keep our eyes on Christ to avoid sinking under the waves. Two weeks ago was the 9th Sunday after Pentecost for the Byzantine Catholic Church and the pastor of Saint John Chrysostom Church preached on the same reading from the holy apostle and evangelist Matthew, emphasizing that when we sin or otherwise fall, we must cry out, Lord, save me!

  3. Gregg the Obscure says:

was a really good homily on “be not afraid” and i made mental notes. really – just don’t be afraid. while the Most High is beyond our comprehension, He is also pure love. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and even so he still loves us and calls to us.

after Mass the music director personally invited me to join the Cathedral’s choir (usually requires an audition) and i’m so over the moon that it’s hard to remember much else of this calendar year let alone the details of today’s homily.

  4. JonPatrick says:

Away from home and attending a local NO parish with low expectations but the Deacon at this mass gave a good homily. People think Peter was a failure because after starting out walking on the water he lost faith and began to sink. But he was willing to get out of the boat and try. The other 11 disciples stayed in the boat. We often are content to stay in the boat where we are comfortable rather than attempting to go out to something that looks risky. How do we know what God is calling us to do? It might be a whisper like what Elijah heard so we too have to listen carefully.

  5. exNOAAman says:

Byzantine Rite; gospel is of the Unforgiving Servant. Deacon preaching, pointed out that this parable has several different names, all having to do with the servant/slave, but he likes to think of it as the Parable of the Merciful and Just King. Comparison is to God the King.
