Chiesa del Santissimo Nome di Maria al Foro Traiano was built built between 1736 and 1751. The celebration of the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary was instituted by Pope Innocent XI after the Battle of Vienna in 1683 with the defeat of muslims set on the conquest of Europe and the obliteration of Christendom. As such it holds a special place for the Habsburgs.

  1. In chessy news, the 45th Chess Olympiad ignited Wednesday in Budapest. 197 Teams are in the Open. Some teams couldn’t compete because of visa issues.

Each country has a captain and 5 players. Each day four players play. They draw for color for board 1, the strongest players, and then alternate along the other three. USA is top seed, followed by India and China. HERE

There were some squeakers. What we have to grasp is that some players from some countries are stronger than their rating suggests because they don’t have the opportunities to compete as much. In the USA v Panama yesterday, Levon Aronian, once world #2 was nearly taken down. He managed to eek out a win. Azerbaijan’ Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (2733) got into serious trouble against a young Jordanian (1994) and barely managed a draw. Uzbekistan was nearly taken down by Trinidad and Tobago.

USA obtained 3.5/4 due to a draw by Wesley. World #3 Fabi did not play yesterday.

Meanwhile, white to move and mate in 2.

NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

Reading your chessy news I found myself wondering if Hikaru is still world #2 (when he first hit it years ago he had a brief stay before Fabi caught up). Then I found out he just beat Magnus to get to over 2800 and only 19.2 points away from Magnus. Crazy… I think this must be sure evidence that the best way to improve in chess is to start a Twitch channel.

What a photo! The colors. The architecture. The perspective. Thank you for sharing.
