Daily Rome Shot 1127 – Mass intentions

I’m finishing up a batch of Mass intentions right now. I’ll have room in my register for more while I am in Rome.  Also, I often say Mass for my regular benefactors and special Roman Sojourn Donors.   HERE for the form I use.

Today is, along with being Ember Friday, the feast of Saint Eustace, Sant’Eustachio. We saw his church yesterday through the street view. Hadrian old his general Eustachius to sacrifice to the gods. He refused. Trajan had him and his family sent ad bestias, to the lions, but they just lay down at their feet. Hadrian ordered them to be killed in a heated bronze bull. Constantine probably built the first oratory here, which is near the Pantheon. Across the way there is a famous coffee shop. I lived in this zone for several years and we could smell the coffee roasting…. not in a bronze bull.

I can take some Mass intentions right now.  HERE  NB: right now I can only receive stipends electronically (Zelle (preferred), Venmo, PayPal, Wise) because of upcoming travel.

Thank you SS for switching monthly donation over to Zelle.

In churchy news…

Gavin Ashenden has some observations at the UK’s Catholic Herald about a old chestnut. HERE

The CDF…. er um… DDF… made a ruling on Medjugorje. HERE My view remains unaffected.

Pres. Trump was going to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa with the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, but the visit was cancelled. HERE I’ll never forget seeing a video of Duda chasing down a Sacred Host which the wind had caught at an outdoor Mass.

One of the strongest chess players for Poland right now is Jan-Krzysztof Duda (2732). Duda seems to be a common Polish surname, originating from “bagpipes” or “bad musician”. Maybe a bad bagpipe player in his ancestral line?

Here’s a bonus shot from inside Sant’Eustachio.   Given that the billboards were removed…. and that today we begin a Novena to St. Michael!

Please remember me when shopping online and use my affiliate links.  US HERE – UK HERE  WHY?  This helps to pay for health insurance (massively hiked for this new year of surprises), utilities, groceries, etc..  At no extra cost, you provide help for which I am grateful.

  1. At the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, 193 national teams are in competition in the Open section. India still has a perfect record after beating China. Ding sat out a second time in a row! Gukesh (the challenger) defeated Wei Yi. Iran edged Vietnam to remain in 2nd.

Yesterday I posted about the DUCK CHESS Championship at Chess.com.  QUACK!  Eric Rosen advanced, which is a good thing.  The knockout Finals, where the winner will take home $600, will commence on Friday, September 20, at 12 pm ET   To watch QUACK!

    This is a crazy variant.

Meanwhile, Magnus Carlsen was given the “G.O.A.T. Award” by FIDE, which is celebrating it’s centenary.

“It feels kind of strange to receive this award while I am still an active player,” said Carlsen.

He also said that Russia and Belarus should not be readmitted yet.

Black to move and mate in… 5.

NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

Try Tazza d’Oro, at the Pantheon, for very strong espresso. Glad, Father, that you’ll soon be in Rome. I continue to pray that you can find permanent residence there.

  3. Crysanthmom says:

Father, it would be good to know your thoughts on Mejagorie. I’m sure you’ve covered it in the past but being relatively new here I’m not familiar with your take. I am a sceptic after having heard that one of the ‘seers’ went on tour and received her locutions in front of live audiences (for a fee for course).

  4. I’ve never doubted that sincere people can have genuine positive spiritual experiences at Medjugorje.

I’ve also never supposed that Our Lady appeared there.

I hope that whatever this is will bear good spiritual fruits for those who are drawn to it.

Dudelsack is the German word for bagpipe.

    Comment on reddit:
Dudel is an old word for blowing a horn or other wind instrument.
and Sack is a translation of bag not just Beutel, Tasche or Tüte, all depends on the context

Well, the Camptown ladies sing this song doodah doodah.

Like its namesake church, that café is glorious but the locals across the street at Zer0ttoNove Café sometimes sneer.

  7. JesusFreak84 says:

Honestly not much Rome could do that would convince me that Medju-goo-goo is legit, let alone cause me to have any devotion to it. I’ll stick with Fatima, Lourdes, Akita, LaSallette {sp?}, etc.
