Daily Rome Shot 1128 – “What Attracts Men to the Sacred Liturgy”

I’m finishing up a batch of Mass intentions right now. I’ll have room in my register for more while I am in Rome.  Also, I regularly say Mass for my regular benefactors and special Roman Sojourn Donors.   HERE for the form I use.

The late Giancarlo (yesterday, RIP), extraordinarily learned in matters liturgical and excellent MC, surveys the action.

When the late Card. Heenan of Westminster saw the soon-to-be imposed Novus Ordo celebrated, he quipped that he thought men would not want to attend it.

I’m just starting to get into this.

  1. In chessy news… India was held to the first draw against Uzbekistan. They remain in the lead. This is at the Chess Olympics in Budapest. Magnus lost. US is in 6th after yesterday.

I’m off to OTB this morning. May God have mercy.

White to move and mate in 3.

NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

What I can say of my own experience with what attracted my husband and sons to the Traditional Latin Mass is that it was obviously Catholic — it shows utmost reverence for the Eucharist and is blatantly CHRIST-centered. We started attending the TLM on a monthly basis in 2019 and exclusively in 2020. My teenage sons whom I had taken to NO daily Mass their entire lives while homeschooling them, went from not wanting to be at church to desiring to altar serve at every opportunity. Both sons have admitted to me that had we remained in the NO, they would have left the church when they moved out of the house. Now, my 18yo is planning on attending Benedictine College next Fall and my 17yo is applying to St. Thomas Aquinas SSPX seminary in the next few months with hopes to attend next Fall. The liturgy does make a stark difference!

1/ Amazon uk has sold out, and is “working hard to get it back in stock”

2/ Heenan said this was because most Englishmen wanted a purely spoken liturgy “without the embellishment of singing”. Note however that was not his personal preference, he established England’s second choir school when Archbishop of Liverpool and he defended the Westminster choir school against his Chapter of Canons.
