Today is the Feast of the Martyrs of Gorkum. Learn about them.
July 9: Feast of St. Martyrs of Gorkum, 17 secular and religious priests and 2 lay brothers who were cruelly killed by the Watergeuzen (fanatical Calvinists) because they adhered to the Pope & the doctrine of the true presence of Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. pic.twitter.com/EgHhkmXsSS

Meanwhile…
Two serious scholars and loyal sons of the Church badly treated during the previous pontificate. Whether or not one agrees with all the details of their diagnosis of that pontificate, the problems they raise will not go away, and must be (and will be) addressed sooner or later pic.twitter.com/HnZWmz0Etq

Well said! Rist was one of my professors at the Patristic Institute “Augustinianum” in Rome. He contributed essays to a couple of books that Francis didn’t like.
Maybe there’s more to my streamed Masses after all!
Collapse of number of Priests in the Czech Republic: Archbishop of Olomouc “suspends the Sunday obligation” — for those who cannot go far, the “online mass is acceptable.”

Bishop of San Bernardino also suspended Sunday Obligation. Because of ICE threats.
Glad to see some of the martyrs of my country (The Netherlands) mentioned. At the place of their martyrdom, in the town of Brielle, there is a shrine dedicated to the Martyrs of Gorcum (or Gorkum, both are colloquial contractions of Gorinchem, which is the name you’ll find on a map, that no one ever pronounces). They were beatified by Pope Clement X in 1675 and canonised by Pope Pius IX in 1867. Apart from the annual National Pilgrimage, there is also one by the SSPX, who process from Gorinchem (where the martyrs were arrested) to Brielle on foot.
It is sad the Archbishop of Olomouc had to decide to suspend Sunday Obligation. The Czech Republic is one of the most Atheist countries in Europe. In neighbouring Slovakia (once part of Czechoslovakia, together with the current Czech Republic), Catholicism has fared much better.
There is no such thing as “online Mass.”
Fr. Reader: There is unquestionably transmission of Masses online. However, there are different modes of participation when one is in the building or not.
There is a middle scenario as well. What do we think about a great number of people showing up for Mass and many people are in an overflow area with a large screen showing what is going on?
