I was reading the Mass for the dead and thinking how blessed Catholics are that have priests that are willing to do funerals with the TLM Mass. It reminded me of a book I have from my grandma, written in the late 1880’s. It’s called The Month of Holy Souls: Practical Meditations for Every Day of the Month of November by Abbe Berlioux. Mediatrix Press has reprinted it. It covers the days of November with stories and prayers for the deceased. One of the stories concerned a person who was so ill, they couldn’t even get out of bed to attend Mass. It was recommended to them to ask the souls in purgatory to pray for their health. By the end of the month, the person could attend Mass. It is such a blessing for the deceased when we pray for them, but I also believe they want to help us. I have asked them my prayer requests. In helping us, they receive assistance during their time of suffering.
