More Catholic they than this charmer, Mr. Cricket.

What a pill.

“Mad Hatter”.  Good one.  It is almost as good as the Wile E. Coyote of the catholic left.

Meanwhile, around these parts we miss Semper Gumby!

This is for him, wherever he is.

Here is a tough one on chess.com.

Black to move and win. It involves a tactic.

NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

The Sisters in Summit have a great shop for yourself or for gifts. I use their candles in the Two Trinities Chapel. Real Estate For Life will connect you with a realtor who will give part of his fee to a pro-life cause. Win win.

Please remember me when shopping online and use my affiliate links.  US HEREWHY?  This helps to pay for health insurance (massively hiked for this new year of surprises), utilities, groceries, etc..  At no extra cost, you provide help for which I am grateful.

I’m at Parris Island right now! Semper Fidelis

  2. A priest friend of mine is chaplain at Parris Island right now. I should be visiting him before long.

White’s Queen has just two squares to which she can move, so force her to choose by attacking her with b7-b5. Whether she moves to b4 or c5, attack her again by pulling Black’s Bishop back to d6, and she is trapped by the two Bishops acting in parallel, with the help of Black’s pawns and Queen. While loses the Queen and takes at most a Bishop in exchange.

I’m down here once a month teaching Marine history as a member of the museum’s Living History Detachment. If we’re both here at the same time in the future, I’ll buy you a beer at The Brig and Brew (the depot’s watering hole, where, coincidentally, I am now). S/F

    @Father:

Is that the same chaplain who served in Guantanamo Bay and lost his vestments?

  6. EAW: I have several chaplain friends but, yes, this is the same guy. Terrific priest.

The “Overall Assessment” has a couple interesting lines. Paragraph 6 includes “Indeed, some bishops note that it is necessary to protect the stable groups to prevent departures from the Church toward schismatic communities or the SSPX [Society of St Pius X].”
So, a bishop fears people “leaving to the SSPX”, and notes the EF keeps them “on his rolls” –> does he not ever reflect why the parishioner might feel the need to choose SSPX over the OF?
And then the other one I noticed was the start of para. 9: “Rather, the MP “Summorum Pontificum” stands in unity and completion, as an organic and coherent development, to the Motu Proprio “Ecclesia Dei Adflicta” of John Paul II …”. This use of “completion” is interesting –> are we saying that the work is complete, and this is as far as we go down this road?

  8. Fr. Reader says:

I just read three articles written by prof Andrea Grillo. I wanted to verify that all the accusations against him have some foundation. In conclusion, I cannot say that the accusations against him are reasonable.

I cannot say it because I don’t understand his words, everything seems to be twisted and retwisted, contorted, and confusing, as if he is angry and is just spitting words.
