ROME 25/10 – Day 5: Old friends

Mascherone.

See the green light? That’s next to my place.

BTW… can someone give me 2 million dollars?  There’s a great apartment for sale.  Just sayin’.

The guys were playing chess under the greatly leafed out fig.

It’s the P.za der Fico, after all.

Some old friends in here.  Not these exact bottles, but wines I know well, especially thanks to K&MA.

In chessy news…

In Sao Paulo, the Grand Chess Tour is wrapping up. Yesterday, game one of the title match between Fabiano Caruana and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave five-hour-long slug fest. Caruana reached a winning queen endgame, but MVL fended him off. For third place between Levon Aronian and Pragg, another draw

And there’s this…

Sad story.

Good to see Rome again, even if just in pics and it goes to show, some things never change.

    1. B-a8 . . K-d4 (Black’s only legal move)
    2. B-e3# (pawn at f4 is pinned)

Sorry, Father. Just spent my last 2 million dollar bill on a coffee.

    Go Blue Jays, Go!

  4. Hey… I’m only asking for 2 Million. I’ll make up the difference somehow. And, the apartment is directly over my butcher and across from Pippo my florist and the Antico Forno bakery. Right? C’mon! Someone?

I say a GoFundMe for this request is much worthier than many others.

I’ve tasted a few of those wines.

The Petrus is wonderful obviously, as are in a lesser way the various Barolo wines.

But personally in that selection, I’d go for the Corton. There’s a simple honesty to a Corton that I greatly respect.

The Chambolle-Musigny is likely cool too, but probably overpriced as it’s a somewhat overrated wine generally.

A less pretentious Brunello than that one might be preferable.

Not terribly keen on Amarone personally, but in that vein, theirs is probably hard to improve upon.

Likely in such a wine shop in that part of Italy I might look for a Chianti Primitivo … Likely unsuccessfully, but you never know.

Wow. That is a beautiful apartment.

I will ask the gas station store clerk for the winning lottery ticket. We will sort this apartment thing out.

Great pictures Father- makes me wish I was in Roma.

    B-e4, K-d4
    B-e3 mate

    Pestlover’s solution ignores Black’s pawn at f4.
