Daily Rome Shot 1541 – It is the way

Please remember me when shopping online and use my affiliate links.  US HEREWHY?  This helps to pay for health insurance (massively hiked for this new year of surprises), utilities, groceries, etc..  At no extra cost, you provide help for which I am grateful.

Here is something different. When posting something to Fakebook, which I almost never do, I ran across a post from The Aubrey-Maturin Appreciation Society which in turn featured a fellow who makes 1/700 model sailing ships for war games with a gaming system called, if I understood rightly, The Weather Gauge. Which there are some videos HERE.

And…

It is the way…

Too cool not to share…

This puzzle was really hard for me. How about you?  White to move. There is a mate in 6. Some forcing moves are involved. Watch that pesky peshky on g2.  HERE

    [NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

    Babe Ruth was not only a faithful Roman Catholic, but a Knight of Columbus as well.

    There was an issue of Columbia Magazine last year, I believe, that covered all sorts of baseball stories that were Knights-related.

    Babe Ruth was in the company of John F. and Ted Kennedy, Vince Lombardi, Lou Albano, and lots of other big names, really big names!

  3. amenamen says:

    In the lower level of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, the name of George Herman Ruth is prominently displayed on the wall, among thousands of names of those who donated to the building of the Shrine.

    He wrote a beautiful letter shortly before he died in 1948. “Bad boy Ruth” died a repentant sinner, and a believing Catholic.

    This was a tricky puzzle, Fr. Z. Black’s threat to Queen his pawn looms over everything White can do. Let me suggest this solution:
    1. Kc6! Ka6 (forced, otherwise White mates with 2. Rxa7++)
    2. b3b4! (threatening b4b5+ followed by Rxa7++ again)
    2. . . . b6b5
    3. a3a4! b5xa4 (not g7g8=Q?, because a4xb5+ is mate)
    4. Rxd5 g7g8=Q
    5. Ra5+ BxR
    6. b4b5++ mate
