I really like this photo.

But somehow the SSPX is a problem….?
First, there was the chicken dance (https://t.co/mjDfflAnoG).
Then came the “Slime Jesus” nativity scene (https://t.co/5bp0HJw6nh).
Now, a German cathedral is hosting a life-size dead humpback whale sculpture: https://t.co/HH9TYeNSB8

Black move and mate in 4. HERE

Black move and mate in 4.
[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]
“But somehow the SSPX is a problem….?”
To the extent that they operate outside the Church that Christ established, yes, Father, they are a problem. To quote Cardinal Sarah: “We are told that this decision is motivated by the supreme law of the salvation of souls … but salvation is Christ, and He is only given in the Church. How can we claim to lead souls to salvation by means other than those He Himself has indicated to us?”
Submission to Peter is also a tradition, older than any set of books used to say Mass, older than nearly if not all condemnations of heresies. We need them within the Body of the Church, not on the outside (to whatever extent), to correct those problems that you have indicated in the course of your mission.
Thanks for listening.
The statue of a dead whale works in to a theme that Novus Ordo rubrics are now being shaped by the infinite improbability drive.
Thanks Father Z, for welcoming me (back).
As for the chess puzzle: 1. … Qd1+ 2. Ng1 Qxg1+ 3. Kxg1 d3+ (all per chess.com’s puzle of the day of last Friday, actually). But then the part I don’t get: the offical solution has 4. Rf2 Rd1# but it seems like 4. Kf1 Rc1+ 5. Rd1 Rxd1# prolongs the struggle for one extra move, and I can’t see why that wouldn’t work…
I mean… if you want a whale sculpture, why aren’t you doing Jonah?
Why don’t you make people walk “through the belly of Sheol” and out into the light?Wouldn’t that be obvious and maybe Lent-appropriate?
I get so tired of people not actually linking their stupid ideas to something that might make them work. Medieval people did some wacky things in churches, but they linked them solidly to Scripture and doctrine.

This might also be of interest: Farnborough Abbey in the UK has recovered two long lost stolen prayer frames (with a link to Napoleon III, who’s buried there) which were taken from their altar. Best of all, they plan to use them again during Mass.
(the TV-show reference might be ignored, but you may have a thing or two to say about their set-up, pictures include in the article linked below – as you moderate the comments, allow me to put the link in here too, for your use: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/4f6f1209586475d6 )
Black to move and mate in 4
I was not able to find a mate in 4 but was able for force mate in 5.
1) … Qc1+
Now white must either take the queen or block check with the rook or knight.
Taking the queen leads to a quick mate in 3.
2) Nxc1 (or Rd1 or Ng1) Rxc1+
3) Rd1 (forced) Rxd1 mate
Blocking check with the rook leads to mate in 5.
2) Rd1 Qxd1+
3) Ng1 (forced) Qxg1+
4) Kxg1 (forced) d3+
5) Kf1 (or Kh1) Rc1 mate
Blocking with the knight also leads to mate in 5.
2) Ng1 Qxg1+
3) Kxg1 forced d3+
4) Kf1 (or Kh1) Rc1+
5) Rd1 (forced) Rxd1 mate
And if 5) Kh1 Rc1 mate
The picture of the life size dead humpback whale in a German Cathedral is hilarious.
The picture of a little girl dressed in a cassock and surplice standing next to a bishop in a German Cathedral is cruel and sad.
Worth remembering is that “Cephas […] in faciem ei restiti, quia reprehensibilis erat” seems also a tradition most Apostolic and intraecclesial older than any extant papyri or codices used to say Mass.
WVC: “The statue of a dead whale works in to a theme that Novus Ordo rubrics are now being shaped by the infinite improbability drive”.
Not to worry, WVC. It’s mostly harmless. The liturgical committee probably had a couple too many pan-galactic gargleblasters.
Shouldn’t there also be a bowl of petunias around there somewhere?
